What to Bring
• 25 clean copies of your resume on quality bond paper to hand out. However, don’t be alarmed if some recruiters refer you to their website to apply online.
• A portfolio/briefcase to hold the resumes, a legal pad, and a quality pen to write down contacts and notes from each encounter.
• Questions to ask each employer (from QuintCareers.com)

- What kinds of skills and experience do you look for in the employees you hire?
- What are the characteristics of your most successful employees?
- Which courses or experiences do you suggest to be a successful candidate?
- What kind of entry-level positions (or internships) exist within your organization?
- Does your company hire on a continual basis or just at certain times of the year?
- How long does the hiring process take? What does it consist of?
- What percent of applicants are eventually hired? What is the retention rate?
- Are there specific career tracks within the organization? In other words, what can a typical employee (for the position I am seeking) hired in your division expect to be doing 2, 5, or 10 years after hiring?
- What is your organization's culture like?
- For how many years does the typical employee stay with the company?
- Are there opportunities for ongoing training through your organization?
- Do you expect your employees to relocate? How much travel is involved?
- What made you choose this company and why do you stay?
- How long have you been with the company?
- What's the one thing that most surprised you about this company?

Job Seeker Success Tips
• Clarify your goals. What do you hope to get out of the job fair?
• Check our website often for an updated list of employers attending. Identify those you are interested in and check their websites to do some basic research on the companies and their hiring needs. Visit with as many recruiters as possible – even if you don’t see many companies planning to recruit in your major specifically, sometimes there are “hidden” opportunities if you ask.
• Prepare a one-minute “commercial” that introduces yourself, telling the employer a little about your professional qualifications, and why you are interested in exploring a career with them.
• Practice the “commercial” ahead of time so you feel comfortable. Practice the questions you would like to ask the employers.
• Dress and act professionally.
• At the event, take five minutes to review the list of attending companies. Highlight those that will be hiring people with your qualifications so you can organize your time efficiently.
• Show interest and enthusiasm by smiling and speaking clearly. Walk confidently and have good posture. Make direct eye contact and shake hands firmly.
• Body language is important: Do you fidget or play with your hair? Do you rock from side to stand while standing? Do you look around the room when someone talks to you? Those habits need to be controlled.
• Answer the recruiters’ questions clearly and concisely. Don’t ramble. Others are waiting to talk to the recruiters, too.
• Collect business cards from each company. Write follow-up letters and send resumes to employers who interest you. Mailing a thank-you letter to employers will help you stand out from the crowd.
• Unsure about any of the above? Just contact the Lakeland Career Services staff for help.
